If you are planning to create a new access point from your property directly on to a public highway, your recommended first step is to check with Lincolnshire County Council to find out if you need planning permission or other approval.
Generally, if your proposed new access point directly accesses a trunk or classified road, you will need to obtain planning approval to create the entrance. This includes crossing grass verges leading to these types of roads.
StoneSet will be happy to provide you with a free, no obligation quote on any modification work, often done at the same time as installing a new driveway. Here is a quick guide to the legal ins and outs of creating a new access point.

Generally, if your proposed new access point directly accesses a trunk or classified road, you will need to obtain planning approval to create the entrance. This includes crossing grass verges leading to these types of roads.
If, as in most cases, the entrance adjoins any other type of road, you are unlikely to require planning permission. If however your proposed new entrance is inappropriately and unsafely positioned – close to a junction, on or near a blind bend – this will obviously not be permitted. Regardless of planning applications, any reputable company would refuse to undertake this type of work.
If your new entrance requires crossing a pavement, that will require approval from the County Council. It is worth making absolutely sure that any proposed work does not cross onto your neighbour’s property, in order to avoid any potential dispute. In other words – be absolutely sure you own all the land used for the work!
Strips of land between properties can be contentious issues, and if the land is owned by a third party, you will likely need a formal grant of easement to the right of way. Very often of course, neighbours have no problem at all, though a verbal agreement over the garden wall is no substitute for written consent.
