What People Have Wanted to Know About StoneSet Resin Bound Paving – and Weren’t Afraid to Ask!
Is StoneSet resin bound paving environmentally friendly?
Yes it is. Installed correctly by a reputable and experienced company like StoneSet, resin bound paving is SuDS compliant, in line with Environment Agency guidelines on domestic hard surfacing. In fact, the permeable nature of our resin bound, block paved and tarmac installations all meet the requisite criteria. Click below for full guidance.

Local guidance reinforces StoneSet’s green credentials. Where appropriate, we will always install additional drainage aids too.
Surface collection in channels, gutters and permeable pavements, or as sheet flow onto grass surfaces, keeps run off at or near the surface, enabling cost-effective and visually legible design. Collection of run off at or near the surface also reduces maintenance costs, and allows for simple removal of blockages. (Lincolnshire County Council)
Based on the requirements for discharge to surface waters- even on impermeable soils- set out in the SuDS Manual, Chapter 26 (CIRIA, 2015), a permeable paving installation or source control with one SuDS component – for example – residential driveways, low traffic roads, low use car parks (schools and offices) carries a low pollution hazard level. - Weed-free surface

Are resin bound and resin bonded the same?
Not at all. StoneSet only install resin bound surfacing – never resin bonded. It is essential you know the difference.
Resin bonded installations involve laying a film of resin on a concrete or tarmac surface, then scattering dry stone to cover the resin. Once this is set, excess aggregate is swept off. As the stone is not set into the resin, the eventual surface is neither smooth or permeable. As such, resin bonded driveways are prone to stones escaping over time, and are not SuDS compliant.
Put simply, resin bonded is the cheap and nasty alternative to resin bound. It is essential for any prospective buyer to differentiate between the two. Of course, it is always the customer’s right to choose either (or neither!), but do make sure you know which type of surface you are being offered when being quoted.
How will it look in 4-5 years?
Provided you keep up with the minimal maintenance required, a StoneSet resin bound installation will still look superb. Weatherproof and impact resistant, all StoneSet surfaces are expertly laid, giving our customers decades of durability and stunning good looks from their installation.

Will I need planning permission for a resin bound driveway?
Ordinarily, you will not need planning permission for a StoneSet resin bound driveway. As resin bound paving is permeable and meets Environment Agency standards for rainwater drainage (see Lincolnshire County Council guidance above in this article), local authorities will not require planning applications for driveways, even those in excess of 5m2.

Aren’t they ‘a bit bleak’?
Come on now. As Jermaine Jackson once sang – let’s get serious! Next question please…
How much does a resin bound driveway cost?
This is a serious question, although price of a resin bound driveway depends on so many factors, so this is where we start asking questions! What type of surface do you currently have? Do you want a complete redesign? Do you want to incorporate additional features and surfaces? Will you extend a pathway to the rear of your property?
StoneSet always undertake a site survey before giving a free, no-obligation quotation. This prevents any confusion for prospective clients.
